Florianopolis is in southern Brazil and is most commonly known for it's great white sandy beaches and it's great surfing waves which attract both armatures and professionals like. The small island relies on tourism as it's primary industry and thus strives to keep all guests happy, and to expand on it's offerings. They have done a great job at expanding on just the beaches and natural beauty of the city by reaching out to other demographics.

The most famous postcard view of Florianopolis is presented at night, when the bridge Hercílio Luz is full lit. The bridge has been closed to cars and pedestrians since 1982, but it is still the face of the city and boasts the title of Historic and Artistic Heritage. The bridge was built early in the century and boast impressive stats for the day, including largest suspension bridge of the time. After leaving the bridge, head on over to Avenida Beira Mar which is in the vicinity and is a bustling avenue in the capital of Santa Catarina, full of bars and trendy restaurants.

Mirante Manoel de Menezes, is an observatory located in the Morro da Lagoa and offers one of the most beautiful views of Florianópolis. On clear days you can even see the ocean from the beaches of Joaquina and Mole. Much of the Lagoa da Conceição is guaranteed to create a wonderful view! Mirante Ponto de Vista is another observatory and it offers almost exactly the opposite view to the Mirante Manoel de Menezes. It is located on top of the Da Barra Hill and is open from 10:00 am until 7:30pm.

The Island of Campeche, in front of Pontal do Campeche, is one of the most important archaeological sites in Florianópolis. Dating back around five thousand years, primitive tribes inhabited the island, providing one of the largest concentrations of rock inscriptions in Santa Catarina. Many of the inscriptions were destroyed by treasure hunters, but there are still many signs written in the black basalt cliffs on the west side of the island, in Praia do Mar Grosso. One of the great attractions of the Island of Campeche is the North Hill, which is also the highest point of the island, at 85 meters. Tours are available and last about three hours, starting at Armação Beach and Praia do Campeche, and ending on the island of Campeche itself. There is also a trail that outlines the island, which is part of the tour but optional.

Florianopolis also has a historical downtown, which runs through the Praça XV de Novembro. The surroundings here warrant a visit, especially the many old historic houses, and the famous old City Public Market which is very lively on Saturday mornings. Finding a nearby hoteis em Florianopolis isn't difficult either, and there are many in the nearby areas.

Since April 2005, Florianopolis has been home to the 22nd base for the Tamar Project, which aims to raise awareness about the conservation of sea turtles. In the visitor center, there are monitors, video rooms, and many permanent exhibits. It runs from Tuesday to Sunday, including holidays, from 8:30am to 5:00pm.

Florianopolis has many more attractions, but if you visit only these suggestions, you will not be disappointed! The best times to visit are during summer when the weather is at it’s best and when the water is warm. Be prepared to share the city with many tourists and vacationers because the summer months are popular with everyone else as well and the city explodes in population during the summer months.
